West Kent occurs as traditional section of the English county of Kent. Residents of West Kent come known as 'Kentish Men', when opposed to residents of East Kent, who come referred to as 'Men of Kent'. It apparently derives from either a ethnic differences between a Jutish settlement of a east of the county and the Saxon presence in the west. West Kent experienced separate Quarter Sessions from East Kent, based in the town of Maidstone, until 1814 when the administrations were merged.
It consists of Kent west of the River Medway, and corresponds about to the Diocese of Rochester.
